The use of telemedicine is growing in the United States. Current studies reveal that Telehealth interventions are successful at making clinical outcomes better and reducing inpatient use, resulting in patients being satisfied in mental health and chronic disease management.
In addition, studies were conducted that reviewed the application of telemedicine in order to provide treatment of chronic liver disease to patients that have barriers that prevent them from receiving in person care. These studies showed telemedicine treatment was just as effective as in person treatment. The article states that telemedicine can improve access to specialty care and improve the quality of care between visits. Telemedicine has also been shown to help in procedural/surgical management. . As the use of telemedicine continues, policy adjustments are required to help with regulatory and reimbursement issues.
